From the collection: SMF vase

Nice painting

Another great yard sale find. This vase, with its geometric form and beautiful, confident hand painting, is marked "SMF Handpainted Wuttemberg", with a molded mark "2607" and the painter's mark. It is from Schramberger Majolika-Fabrik in the Black Forest region of Germany. Tracing its origins to 1820, SMF operated as such from 1919-1989.

Eva Zeisel's first job as a designer was at SMF, arriving in 1928 at the age of 22. In her two years there, she designed many pieces in the modern, geometric style (not this one). I made models for reproductions of two Eva Zeisel SMF pitchers from this period.
